According to Del Webb 72% of boomers will be working after retirement. Why is that?
Retirement planning is changing...no kidding...gone are the days of retiring and not having to work.
The current economy does not help matters...folks are skittish...and concerned that they might outlive their money.
For some people who actually enjoy working, bless them, taking a low level job in retirement is a way of staying busy...good for them.
I contend that if you have to work in retirement...make sure it is working at something you enjoy.
There are ways of earning that do not seem to be work if you can combine earning with a hobby or being around something you enjoy doing.
For instance, the community I live in has 4 golf courses...almost all the "employees" are fellow residents.
They get free golf and hang around a place they love...the golf course.
Others that come from a higher income career will find the job market tight in the more desirable retirement states...lots of folks chasing few jobs.
There is always real estate, but to do anything well, you need to put in the hours. Brokers may not want to give a desk to those who want to "dabble in real estate".
There are those who feel companies will compete for their consulting expertise...this is great work if you can get it.
Working after retirement at home is an option many will pursue.
Why is this so? When you retire you want to look retired and working at home you can still "appear retired".
This also is tough to earn much unless you have a specific product or special skill. Doing Ebay is not as easy as it may seem.
What is left?
Working after retirement online has the following advantages:
Sounds good so far doesn't it...It is what I am doing as I write this...this is something I enjoy...I am earning money while I sleep.
My online story. Is it easy? No...nothing worth having is. Was it worth it? Yes...I am now confident I can stay retired and appear retired.
If you know you will need to be working after retirement...plan now. Use this time while you are still working to go through the learning curve necessary to work online.
It will take some time, but you knew that. After you get rolling and can prove to yourself you can do this...reirement does not seem as daunting as it once did.
If you want to retire but do not have the money to do so. Make lemonade from the lemons you see all around you. You have earned a rest from working and this is a great way to "fully retire".
