Winter Haven best spot for retirement
by David Lane
(Winter Haven FL)
We moved to Florida in 1999 from western New York state, bought a condominium and now have a condominium in Winter Haven FL.
Winter Haven with 35,000 people is between Orlando and Tampa near I-4 and Route 27. It is a livable place with everything you will need including adequate healthcare and a 500 bed hospital.
Housing is reasonable, lots of good places well under $100,000 but also places well above that for those who want the ritzy. Winter Haven has lots of lakes and many city parks and walking trails.
If you want a place with water view this is definitely the place to come. City government has its act together. New library, up to date downtown, outstanding community theater.
If you like to eat out Winter Haven has lots of good places that you can actually afford to eat at including places with continental dining.
We always wanted to live with a water view. We found our place here. It is in an eight story condominium with 79 units ranging in size from 1400-1600 sq.ft. washer/dryer 2 or 3 bedroom, solarium, the place has a large well cared for heated pool, tennis court, manicured courtyard and community room.
You can walk to shopping, banks, full service gym and there is an eight acre public park a half block away with wonderful walking trails, picnic pavilion and large shade trees. You can get a place here at this time for under $100,000 with improved kitchen and
2 full baths.
Monthly maintenance fee is $230 and that includes water and cable TV. There is covered parking. We like to travel internationally. We can lock one door and we are outa here.
Orlando International airport is 40 minutes away with cost effective flights to everywhere. We like to visit Panama at least once a month and there are nonstop flights there in three hours.
If you like cruises there are lots from Port Canaveral, Tampa about an hour or so away. These ports have excellent rates for 3, 4, 7, 10 day cruises. Amtrak with 2 trains North and 2 trains South has a stop in Winter Haven.
Entertainment is everywhere. We have season passes to lots of stuff including theatre, music, Disney and other places. Gulf and Atlantic beaches are about 90 minutes away.
Winter Haven should be on your place to look for an affordable place to retire. you can visit the chamber of commerce by googling: destination Winter Haven. There is a site www.condo.com.
Type in Winter Haven FL and a couple hundred condos, townhouses etc. will pop up with pictures, prices full descriptions and the include the MLS number so you can contact any real estate agent in the area and they can get you more info and a tour if you'd like. We are sold on Florida and Winter Haven as a place to live.
