Living for 3 years on a sail boat

My floating home

My name is Ray and I lived on a sail boat for three years. I decided to make the move after a divorce. Some may call it a mid life crisis but it was something that I always dreamed of doing.

The first question I asked my self was can I really live aboard a boat? Can I afford it? How much does it cost to live aboard? Also when I told my family that I was going to go threw with it they all thought I was losing my mind.

I did not live full time on a boat but I spent around 6 to 9 months a year. I only spent about $500 a month. I made my income by day trading on the stock market. I had a laptop on my boat with a at&t internet card.

When living aboard the negatives are not really that bad. Not having a TV is not a bad thing. There is so much junk on TV today, that I didn't miss a thing.

But there was one big disappointment, that was not being able to watch my Chicago Cubs play. But I got used to it, they haven't been to the world series is 100 years so I was not that disappointed.

As far as food I would often catch fish fresh daily, I had a small cast iron stove where I would cook my meals. I would dock the boat about once every two weeks and I would go to a local grocery store and load up on produce, drinks, and some other of my favorite foods that I could not live without.

I traveled all along the gulf coast for about three years and it was the best three years of my life.

Cat vs mono

I see that you are living on a cat. I am not sure what boat would be the best. I'm just now starting my two year plan. Boat shows and selling the crap I don't need will be high on the list.
