If you are looking for the best ways to retire early... Stop for a moment and ask yourself some questions. in 1989 I knew I wanted to retire, I was 44 years old.
I also wanted to make sure that I was retiring to something... And not just to stop work... I had heard too many stories about people retiring... Without hobbies purpose or direction... And dying of heart attacks within a year of retiring... I did not want to be that person.
So I made two lists, one of the things I never wanted to do again and the other things I hoped to accomplish when retired.
These lists are scans of the originals that I made in 1989.
How did I do? It is still a work in progress, but I like to think I'm doing pretty well on my list of things never to do again.
There is no one-way to make these lists… They must be from your heart, and personal.
I do not suppose to know what is important to you... Any more than you know what makes me tick... Take some time when making your list.
One more thing about these important lists... Do them separately from your spouse, and then sit down and discuss them… If they're very similar great... If they're not you get some work to do because you're both retiring and you need to both be seen from the same page in the hymnal.
Do not take this lightly… Retirement planning takes just as much time as any other goal oriented objective.
The second list contains what I wanted to accomplish in retirement.
How did I do? Well I have missed my weight goal by about 20 pounds, but am in good shape exercise regularly and eat well.
I am still as excited today about being retired as I was in 1994 when I took that first step.
I am absolutely certain that I would not swap the years between 1994 and the present for any amount of money... We had adventures and lived lifestyles that most people only dream about, we consider ourselves extremely fortunate and blessed... And hope we can encourage you to stop and think a minute and encourage you to start thinking more seriously about early retirement.
I would encourage you to make your own lists... You will be well on your way to coming up with the best ways to retire early
