Seasons Change & so does Natures Bounty on the Island @ Sargent Texas

As our mild Texas winter has settled in the speckled weakfish (ak speckled trout & redfish (red drum) have started their migration towards the warmer waters of the coastal creeks and rivers. They follow the schools of shad up the creeks and will stay in those waters unless we get significant rain that would force them back out into the Intercoastal Waterway. Thursday night we made our weekly fishing trip to catch a few specs that would be the main focus of a couple of nightly meals.

The limit is 10 trout over 15 inches per person. Only 2 of those trout may be over 25 inches. We fished from around 9:00PM - midnight. The fishing was excellent.

We caught around 15 - 20 nice trout and many sand trout (white trout) as well as several undersize red fish. Night fishing under the lights on Caney creek can be utterly fantastic.

Right now the fishing is excellent and the birding is world class. Sargent is #1 on the upper coast birding trail.
