and it can be horrible. The summers are hot and humid, with millions of little biting bugs. Winters rarely bring snow, but ice storms are common. And in the spring, tornadoes are also common - and deadly. Northern Arkansas is part of tornado alley.
Also, if you are not very conservative and religious, Arkansas will probably not be your cup of tea. Over half the state is "dry" - and not likely to change. Eureka Springs, Hot Springs, and Little Rock are gay friendly, but nowhere else. And though it's touted as a great place to retire, unless you want to join a militia or the KKK, stay away from Harrison.
That said, the cost of living is low, the scenery is spectacular, and the infrastructure is fairly good. Little Rock has good shopping and hospitals. The River Market is very nice, and there is good night life there.
