Hello

Frugal Retiring News Issue #24, May 2011

Happy times in the Caribbean... It does not seem possible that we sold our boat nine years ago...

This picture is taken on Marina Cay off Tortola, in the British Virgin Islands.

This is the two-year anniversary of frugal retirement news

Also in the time flies Department, this is the 24th issue of frugal retiring news... With the economy remaining anemic at best, the timing for writing about frugal ways to retire could not have been better...

Over 1000 fine people like you receive this newsletter every month... I thank you for your continued interest.

As I said last month, the stock market crash of 2008 has done me a favor...by forcing me to find a way to earn and still appear fully "retired".

Although the commercial real estate business that I left in 1994, was good to us from a financial standpoint...I can assure you I was not helping people or making the world a better place.

This is the first time in my life, that I can honestly say that I am giving back to others... If I have helped just one... And from the e-mails I receive there's a lot more than one... person rethink retirement...it has been a success.

Other site build it success stories

I do not have the market cornered in people... From all walks of life... that have benefited from using Site Build It to reinvent themselves...their stories are different... the results are all the same...

Here are four very ordinary, real people and their stories...

8 years after quitting a job to start a kid's birthday party business??

A work at home mom's story after nine years

Another WAHM success story and how she pays it forward

Shaun's passion for helping people write better pays off

Finally there is my story with a video...

Our frugal tip for this month

My frugal wife had a birthday last month...

I got up before her ( not difficult)on her birthday, went to the file containing 24 of the birthday cards I had purchased for her in the past and placed them around the house...

Then about 12 post a notes with my attempt at humor to make something rhyme with 59...Like "still fine at 59"..."all mine at 59"...you get the idea... Dinner that night, with a 2-for-1 coupon of course, and she had a birthday celebration that cost very little with very great meaning to her.

Hallmark cards has not made a dime on either one of us for 12 years... Their prospects for doing so in the future are dim...

No matter what the occasion, birthday, anniversary or Valentine's Day...we have fun remembering what we were doing so many, 36 and counting, years ago.

International Living magazine article

In this month's International Living magazine I was paid for an article, on our frugal life living on a sailboat in the Caribbean.

Here's a PDF file of the article

This month they have asked for another article on our experiences with the Mexican dentist we have used for the last nine years.

It is only a 3 1/2 Hour drive to Algodones from our house... Even with gas prices as high as they are we are way ahead of the game using our Mexican dentist...

Here's the page on our Mexican dentist that gives the background for the article...Hey... this writing articles and getting paid for it is not a bad deal at all.

I pay for a subscription to International Living Magazine you should too if retiring overseas has ever crossed your mind.

Health Tip of the month

I hope some of you have taken my advice from last month and started watching the old reruns of shows like:

The Andy Griffith Show; Luci and Desi; Sanford and Son; The Carol Burnett Show; MASH

Try it I guarantee it will be better for your stress level than watching the evening news...

Dr. Pierce is right on this one...

Your emails

With very few exceptions, I enjoy hearing from you and encourage your input on ideas that you would like to share with others to help them save money...

Here's the link to use for your submissions

Pictures are always encouraged... Here's one of my favorite reader submission to tell about his retirement in Newfoundland ...it's a little cold for me in Canada but this is an example of someone willing to share his or her experiences with others.

Let's hear from you... just use the link above...I can make sure it gets to the appropriate page.

Closing thoughts

I am in the process of moving all the content from my other two websites Best Arizona retirement living and Best retirement living over to this site...one big site makes more sense, in my case, than having three.

I am also planning on changing the website header and website colors... Your feedback on what you think about them is very much encouraged and appreciated...

Stay frugal and stay healthy.

All the best,

Gary and Julie Pierce
