Frugal tips for summer trips

If you haven't already it's a good time to review some of the tips for saving money while you're on vacation...

Frugal Vacation Tips

Living Frugal

Guide to Living Cheap

Are some of my most popular pages for tips on how to save when on vacation or at home...there are lots of links to other pages from these three pages.

We will be escaping the Phoenix heat in a couple of weeks so I serviced our now 13-year-old car, with 193,000 miles this morning.

I am not affiliated with Brakemasters in anyway, but I do recommend them because their technicians are not on commission.

Commissioned sales tricks

Have you ever gone in to a repair facility or tire shop just to get an oil change...and had the technician come out, with a serious face, and tell you that your transmission oil looks cloudy, or your brake pads were worn, you're steering is shot...etc?

They make money by turning the $20 oil change into $1200 worth of work that you may or may not need...just beware of their motivation...it is to earn commissions.

Before I started dealing with BrakeMasters exclusively about six years ago...I saw this played out in customer waiting rooms time and time again... Usually with mothers with children or elderly people.

Be careful.

Frugal tip of the month...use leftovers

If you haven't already, pick up a copy of my free e-book one step to save money and improve your health and prove your relationships

Hint, the e-book is all about eating and preparing the vast majority of your meals at home.

Another benefit of doing so is utilizing leftovers...

My frugal wife is a big fan of Tupperware products and every lunch... Almost without exception... is me taking leftovers and nuking them in the microwave.

Waste not want not.

Call me simplistic, but eating leftovers can save you a ton of money...it has been a way of life in our house ever since I can remember.

A product you should use

I treated myself to a Kindle Fire from Amazon for Christmas... I find myself using it every single day.

Now the only time I go to the library is to borrow the book tapes we listen to when we drive the very boring 800 miles from our house to Julie's mother's house.

The books I read I can now download over the Internet...I am justifying the $200 I spent buying the Kindle fire in saving gas on library trips... And no overdraft fees... When your two week check out period is up the book is removed automatically from your device.

If you read books at all... Take a good look at this product... Just go to www.Amazon.com.

Updating the site map

I recently discovered that I've done a very poor job of updating the site map on site

Site Map for Frugal retirement Living

I have 246 pages on-site... But that doesn't do me much good if you can't find them... I spent an hour uploading pages that were not on the site map...just A thru C...I probably have another 50 pages to place on the site map.

I have a goal that I will have all the pages with a link from the site map uploaded by the next newsletter.

Refinance NOW...rates dropped this month

It is incredible but mortgage rates are still dropping... They are now at the lowest rate in history...

There is no easier way for you to save money than by refinancing... Despite some of the hassle you will get from underwriting requirements... It's worth the time.

Fixed rate mortgages had never been lower than they are right now...3.50% for a 30 year loan.

If there is a faster way to save big money, I have not yet found it... I have refinanced three times in the last two years... You should too.

Refinance tips

Remember to ask for a no closing cost loan to get an apples and apples comparison if you shop around... Use either Lending Tree or Quicken...for the best deal.

Weight loss tips

If you have not yet signed up for 15 weight loss tips delivered over five days click here .

If you want to cut to the chase, and use the program that shows you a custom-made eating plan designed specifically for you go here .

I find my weight has stabilized between 175 and 178... Primarily by limiting sugar and processed foods...

Why is weight loss a frugal tip?

Save money on groceries, less visits to the doctor... And in my case a significant drop in blood sugar 100 to 80... You can still fit in that swimsuit...if you just try.

Closing thoughts

Last weekend I performed a memorial service for a friend from the gym that passed away from cancer.

There were over 100 friends and family in attendance... My friend was 72 the same age as two of my other friends that have passed away in the last 12 months.

There are no guarantees in life and I would urge you to hold your loved ones dear while you still can.

Don't wait until it's too late to tell friends and family how much they mean to you and how much that you love them.

Until next month, stay healthy and stay frugal.

All the best,

Gary and Julie
